Learning Ancient Greek provides similar advantages to Latin. Given that both languages share a similar structure, learning one makes the other easier, and learning both shows you a more complete picture of the Ancient World. Our classes will teach Classical Greek, as used in the 5th and 4th Centuries BC. Additionally, Ancient Greek provides comprehensive tools for students to learn to read the original Greek New Testament.
Just as our approach with Latin, we teach Ancient Greek as a real, living language. Most students of Classical or Biblical Greek learn to memorize noun and verb charts while breaking down each sentence to translate. This mechanical approach treats the language like a secret code, rather than the language that people once spoke in their everyday lives. For that reason, we learn to speak in Ancient Greek while learning to read. Our Latin video demonstrates the same approach we will take in Greek.
Following Lingua Latina Per Se Illustrata, our textbook Logos: Lingua Graeca teaches you to use Ancient Greek as you learn it. With a teacher and a group, you get practice speaking the very Greek words and grammar you are learning. This book was designed specifically for the Living Language Approach that we use here.
The reading and practice immerses you in the world of the Greek language, history, and culture. By the time you are done with this first volume, you will be ready to read Greek and Biblical authors in a natural and fluent manner.
